Choosing My Forecast

Gardening life is a roller-coaster, isn’t it? A garden of surprises, setbacks, and victories sprouting from the soil of our experiences. The weather—both literal and metaphorical—shapes our days, and yet, amidst these unpredictable tides, I find myself returning to one inescapable truth: happiness is a choice, so what did I choose today?

Each morning, I wake up knowing I must decide my own internal forecast. Will I let storm clouds of doubt and frustration set the tone, or will I aim for “Mostly Sunny,” even when thunder rumbles on the horizon? More often than I’d like, I come up short, but the simple act of aiming makes all the difference. It is my hope that my actions are perceived that way by others.

This conscious effort to choose happiness is no different from how successful gardeners approach their craft. We all endure the same rain and droughts, both in weather and in life. The difference lies in how we respond. The best gardeners don’t dwell on a late frost or a pest invasion. Instead, they adapt, recover, and plant again. They create their own forecast through action, determination, and faith in the growth to come.

It’s tempting to believe the world is conspiring against us when things go awry, but this mindset only surrenders our power. By prioritizing my own forecast, I reclaim that power. I’m not dismissing life’s challenges; I’m acknowledging them while refusing to let them define my day.

Gardening—and life—aren’t about avoiding storms. It’s about weathering them with grace, cultivating resilience, and seeking the sunlight. So, each day, I remind myself to plant seeds of joy, no matter how the wind blows. What will you choose for your forecast today?

Like all Saturday mornings, we’re live at 8 AM (or delayed broadcast, any time afterwards), we say ‘Choose your own forecast’, and then ‘tune-in’ for answers to your many gardening questions on: “Gardening Inside Out”.
