The Spring Transition Begins

Updated: Feb 27

Now OPEN Saturdays 9a – 4p; Open Sundays beginning March 16!

Saturday marks the beginning of Meteorological Spring, which sounds fancy but really just means we’ve survived February and are now technically in the season of hope, renewal, and wildly unpredictable weather. Last week’s bitter cold? Let’s call that winter’s dramatic exit. Of course, we’ll still see frosts, freezes, and the occasional “Oh no, not again” moment, but hey—at least the days are getting longer!

In true early spring fashion, our first shipment of cool-weather vegetable plants has arrived! That means it is time for gardeners to perform the annual ritual of convincing themselves that this is the year their lettuce, kale, and broccoli won’t become a buffet for the neighborhood rabbits. Meanwhile, our perennials have rolled in, looking fresh and ready to put down roots.

For those with fruit tree fever (not a real or contagious condition), good news—our latest shipment of fruit trees has landed! Apples, pears, peaches—oh my! If you’ve been dreaming of backyard harvests, now’s the time to plant.

Out in the lot, the great Plant Migration is underway. Our roses, fresh from their cozy winter in the Batestrium, are stretching their leaves in the sunshine, getting ready to steal the show.  Of course, just about any type of broadleaf evergreen or conifer has again been ‘lined up’ for the springtime show.

And let’s not forget the houseplants! Oxalis, primrose, gloxinia, and orchids are here to remind us that we can have beautiful blooms indoors while we wait for spring to fully commit. Speaking of houseplants—longer, warmer days mean it is time to give them a little TLC. A good cleaning, fresh fertilizer, and maybe an encouraging pep talk should do the trick.

Every Saturday morning, we’re live at 8 AM (or delayed broadcast, any time), we provide a timeline, but no marching orders, for your many ‘Meteorological Springtime’ gardening projects on: “Gardening Inside Out”. Listen to our Podcast anytime! Follow and contact us:  Facebook. YouTube. Instagram

So, ready or not, spring is inching in. Let’s get growing!
